Our Neo-w ride is approaching

If you’ve stopped by virginamerica.com lately, you may have noticed a shiny new seat map when you select a seat during the booking check-out process (pictured below). If so, you’ve just caught the first glimpse of our brand new Airbus A321 Neo aircraft.  We are putting the finishing touches on them right now in Hamburg and they are on track to start flying across the Virgin America network starting late May, 2017 – with all 10 new Airbus A321 Neo aircraft in the fleet by the third quarter of 2018.

Here are some of the reasons we’re excited about our neo-w ride:

Improved fuel efficiency

Since our launch, we have been committed to being a sustainability leader in the airline industry. With this delivery, Virgin America will become the first airline globally to operate A321neo aircraft powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines. These engines, along with the aircraft’s fuel-saving Sharklet wingtip devices, will allow us deliver up to 20 percent reduced fuel burn over our current generation aircraft. That’s equivalent to cutting 5,000 tons of CO2 emissions per plane every year!

As an added bonus, the neo engine option helps us become an even better community partner, with significantly reduced noise levels – up to half the noise footprint compared to the ceo engine option. You can read-up on our other sustainability issues on our website.

More seats in the same spacious, moodlit cabin

As you may have noticed on the new seat map, the new aircraft are larger and will be configured to include 185 total seats, which is roughly 24 percent more seating capacity than our existing A320 aircraft, along with an additional bathroom in the Main Cabin. Our cabins will be just as spacious and comfortable as they are today – it just means we will be able to fly even more guests to their destinations in style. This includes six additional Main Cabin Select seats, which means even more opportunities for our Elevate members to upgrade and enjoy extra legroom, complimentary entertainment, snacks, meals (on flights over two hours), drinks and Priority Security and Boarding.

Everything you love, with a few sweet new updates

Our new aircraft will include all the features that you love about flying Virgin America today – Red inflight entertainment at every seatback, our unique on-demand menu, WiFi and power outlets at every seat – and we’ve also made some small, but sweet new updates to the cabin to make your ride even more comfortable. Stay tuned for more detail – we can’t wait to show you the final product and reveal the aircraft’s name in the coming months!

Flights operated by our new Airbus A321 Neo aircraft can be booked starting today, for travel starting in summer on certain flights between SFO-JFK and SFO-DCA*. To grab a seat on Virgin America, head to virginamerica.com.
