Seattle Air Traffic Control equipment outage at Sea-Tac Airport delays flights

People traveling to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport today can expect delays due to low ceilings and a temporary Air Traffic Control equipment outage, which has significantly reduced the hourly rate of planes arriving and taking off at Sea-Tac.

Some 90 Alaska Airlines and Virgin America flights scheduled to depart Seattle through noon have been delayed by up to two hours, affecting approximately 10,000 guests.

“Guests traveling through Seattle today should check the status of their flights before they leave for the airport,” said Todd Sproul, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of system operations control. “In the meantime, we’re working with the Port of Seattle and the FAA to restore normal operations as soon as possible.”

  1. As a seasoned traveler (90% Alaska) a one hour delay isn’t a big deal. Alaska is at least informing their passengers regularly. Can’t say that for most other airlines. Alaska is #1 and I’m sure Virgin will be too in a short while.

  2. I also refuse to go through SFO any more. More than 1.5 million miles on United and I am sure I have spent weeks in SFO waiting to get home. If I need to go to the Bay Area I fly to OAK or San Jose.

  3. This is like a normal day at SFO. I used to fly 100 a yr on UA before switching to Alaska. Delays like this always happen there. Just gives Alaska customers something to not look fwd to when the merger with Virgin goes through. I avoid SFO at all costs. It amazes me how little delays Alaska has even when the weather is bad. If it was me I’d pull that Virgin hub and move it to another airport or days like today at Seatac will be the norm.

  4. Thank you for the timely information.

    1. At least we had a great Captain and fun flight crew! Had to deplane after starting to Load in Anchorage. Spent some time conversing with crew members.

      Made the time go fast!
